A pair of late Victorian cufflinks created from carved and painted ivory Japanese Noh theater masks.These cufflinks portray the Hannya mask; Hannya masks depict an otherworldly creature known for displaying jealousy, sorrow and grief, and are meant to display the complexity of human emotions. The toggle is a piece of bamboo, and is connected to the mask by a piece of sterling silver chain. Circa 1890.
