Romantic Victorian Silver and Enamel Butterfly Bangle
Item No. BMV0801048
A stylish sterling silver Victorian bangle bracelet embellished with two enamel butterflies framed by apple blossoms and yellow daisies. Circa 1880.

Sentimental jewelry was extremely popular during the Victorian period. There was an emphasis on romantic motifs, especially those of butterflies and flowers. With several books written on the language of flowers, the idea that specific flowers represent specific sentiments was common and widespread. The apple blossom was known to represent preference and good fortune, while daisies represent innocence, loyal love and beauty. In a similar line of thought, a butterfly was thought to symbolize the soul: in this case, the twining of two souls, surrounded by fortune and loyal love.
